As far as budget goes I was just trying to get the most I could with very little money and I know you get what you pay for but this is my first workstation and right now all I have to compare is my laptop and the z800, that and the fact that I'm not very computer savvy.Īnother program that I use is called Lumion. I found an x5570 for 205 with the heat sink on eBay. I am definitely looking into swapping the CPU eventually and that's exactly why I'm posting in here to see if someone can help and that you have and I thank you. I was told it was the latest new thing at the time and paid extra for the i7 and other stuff. The thing that is eating at my brain is that I did notice an increase in speed in rendering time, but I'm not sure if its due to the fact that its 12 gb ram in the z800 vs my 6 gb ram on the laptop or the fact that its a xeon processor on the z800 vs the i7 on my laptop.

HP Z800 Workstation 1x Quad Core Xeon L5520 2 26GHz 12g NEW500G FX3800 Windows 7 | eBay I got this computer refurbished from ebay. What would be your budget?Īgain, I wish there was an easy solution. Sell the computer and buy something better.

I don't know if that will really help or be faster for the kind of renderings you do, and the additional rendering software can get very complicated. You might even be able to add an additional video card. You could look into GPU rendering using a separate rendering program instead of Revit. But even if you have an additional ~$2,000 to spend, I don't think it's a good investment into such old technology.ģ. That should be 4 to 5 times faster than what you have now for rendering, and better all-around revit performance. Buy two faster Xeon CPUs to replace the slow Xeon CPU you have now - such as the Xeon X5680 (~US$1,000 each) (you would need to check with HP that they are compatible, but they should be).

If you know how to install a CPU yourself, you can get a Xeon L5520 for fairly cheap (~US$200) if you have to go back to HP to get it installed, it could get crazy expensive.Ģ. However, your computer will still be almost as slow as your old laptop for almost everything besides rendering, and you could have gotten much better performance for probably less money if you'd bought the "right" computer in the first place. It will come close to doubling the rendering performance (reducing the rendering time by half). Buy an additional Xeon L5520 CPU and install it. Is there any chance you can still return it and get your money back?Īside from that, there are only a few things you can do:ġ. That's really old technology (did you buy it used or refurbished?). I'm sorry to give you bad news, but that HP Z800 workstation you recently purchased is not a great computer for Revit.

I would like to take full advantage of this z800 and reduce rendering time. Thank you for your time and apologize if this is long and unorganized. I was wondering if someone can shed some more light on the subject and see if anyone can help me decide which cpu to purchase because right now I have a single cpu and would like to have 2. I was also reading though this page here-> Īnd it says that the faster the cpu the better, also clock speed is important. I have also been checking the benchmarks of each cpu I take a look at in PassMark Software - CPU Benchmark Charts Such as x5690, l5520, w5580, e5645 and I even went to the intel page Learn About Intel® Processor Numbers to try and learn what all these numbers and letters mean. My question is about cpu and its significant role in the Revit world. I have been doing lots of research in different forums but it seems as though some information is conflicting and is creating some confusion.

I definitely noticed a difference in the time it takes to render images in Revit. I have recently purchased an Hp Z800 Workstation with the following:ġx Intel Xeon L5520 Quadcore 2.26ghz (8mb cashe,2,26ghz, 5.86 gt/s)īefore I had this computer I was doing all of my Revit work from my laptop which has an i7 quadcore Q 720, mobility radeon hd 5650 and 1.60 ghz with 6gb of ram and 500 gb of hd.

This is the first time I post something here so please bare with me.
